Training


At Barkerhaus Kennel we believe that just like people, dogs each have talents that set them apart from other dogs. And just like people, dogs need a job to show case those talents. Training your dog to do those jobs give the dog a purpose in life, confidence and the sense that he is contributing to the family good. This sense of well being makes your dog a happy part of the family. Everyone begins training their dogs the day they bring them home, either consciously or unconsciously, we begin training.


Our training programs teach you how to train your dog. So you know what to look for before the problems get too big to control. The training you receive teaches you the basics so that you can continue to train and advance the progress of your dog.

We have two different types of training available, in kennel training and group or private lessons. People often ask which type is better and the answer is that it depends on your individual needs. Some people simply do not have the time to train their dog at home. If this is your problem the in-kennel training is the program for you. Your puppy stays at our climate controlled two acre facility for a three week stay while we train your puppy the basics. Upon graduation we follow up with 4 additional private lessons so that you know just how to re-enforce the training your dog has received. If you do have the time to spend one hour a week and 15 minutes a day, then the classes( group or private) will work for you. You will come to the designated training course once a week for your training lesson, then will go home and practice daily.


Puppy Classes
Puppy training covers everything that you will come in contact with once you bring home your new pet. Jumping, digging, chewing, house breaking is all covered. Plus the group environment teaches your puppy social skills with other dogs and humans.



Basic Obedience
This class if for older dogs that haven't yet gone through the puppy class. These dogs generally developed problems that need to be corrected. It provides a learning experience for the problems your dog may not have picked up yet.


Specialized Training
Our trainers can customize your training to suit your family's individual needs. Not all families want the same thing for their dog, and our private lessons and in-kennel training specializes in training for your families lifestyle. And if you want to compete in AKC obedience, Conformation, Agility, or in Schutzhund, we can train for your areas of interest.


Service Dogs
Barkerhaus Kennel saw a need in El Paso to have training available for people with specialized needs. To date we have been able to train service dogs in the following categories: wheel chair assistance, retrieval assistance, tactile reassurance and guide dog assistance. We can evaluate your own dog to see if it will be capable of becoming a service dog, and then provide the training necessary, or we occasionally will have a dog available for purchase.


Schutzhund Training Our kennel sponsors a local Schutzhund club for those who would like to advance their dogs training even further. Schutzhund training focuses on obedience, protection and tracking.
